Bags of Taste is a non-profit organisation tackling food poverty at source by teaching people how to cook healthy, tasty and cheap food from scratch.
Our free Mentored Home Cooking Courses support people on low incomes who struggle with food costs.
The courses teach how to cook meals from scratch that cost less than £1 a portion, enabling participants to improve their diets and finances.
The courses are done from home, all that’s needed to take part is a kitchen with basic equipment and a phone. Students can cook from the comfort of their home and learn useful cooking and budgeting skills based around three simple, affordable recipes that allow for a lot of variation. The courses are flexible; we deliver a free bag of ingredients and recipes with everything needed to cook three dishes in two weeks. We then provide support, encouragement and personal mentoring to guide students through the 2-week course, who can join a friendly group on WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger or receive one to one mentoring over the phone or via email.
Our delivery zone is between S1 and S14 in Sheffield. However, options for further postcodes can be discussed on an individual basis.
